Homemade kitty treats offer a healthy alternative to pricey store-bought brands made of cheap fillers and chemical additives. Not only that, but cooking with your kitten can be a bonding experience for the two of you. Treats can be used as a reward for good behavior and new skills, help clean their teeth, and can provide hours of fun if used in treat puzzles or hidden around your home.

According to our manager Carolyn who made these for her own cat, Lion, “My kitty hung out in the kitchen the whole time I was making these treats!”

Tuna Cat Treats:
This recipe makes about 2-3 dozen treats.

Ingredients:
(1) 5oz. can of Tuna (No added salt) Drained.
(1) Egg
(1) Tablespoon of Olive Oil
(1) Tablespoon of Catnip (optional)
(1) Cup of oat flour*
*You can easily make oat flour at home by grinding old-fashioned oats in a clean coffee grinder.

Step 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, I used my cast iron cookie sheet but you could use a regular cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step 2. Put all ingredients in food processor or mixer.

Step 3. Blender together until smooth

Step 4. Sprinkle a light coating of flour on counter ( You can use regular flour or make a little extra oat flour) and lightly roll 1/2 of the tuna mixture in flour before rolling out with a rolling pin.

Step 5. Use a pizza cutter to gently cut the treats into little 1/2 inch squares, you could also use a little cookie cutter to make fun shapes!

Step 6. Place cut treats on cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes.

Let the treats cool before placing inside your container, then store in the fridge.

If you have a picky eater, or a kitty who enjoys variety, you can also substitute tuna with chicken!

Chicken Cat Treats:
This recipe makes about 2-3 dozen treats.

Ingredients:
1/2 Pound of steamed chicken thighs or breast (Boneless and skinless)
1 Cup of fresh spinach
1 Egg
1 Tablespoon of catnip (optional)
1/2 Tablespoon of olive oil
1 1/4 Cup of oat flour*

*You can easily make oat flour at home by grinding old-fashioned oats in a clean coffee grinder, set aside about a 1/4 cup of oat flour for rolling out the treats.*

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and steam the chicken until cooked through, let the chicken cool for at least 20 minutes before moving on to the next step.

Step 2. Put the cooled chicken, oat flour, spinach, egg, catnip and olive oil in a food processor or blender and blend until combined.

Step 3. Sprinkle extra oat flour on a clean surface and place mixture on top ( If the mixture is a little too sticky to handle, add a little more oat flour.)

Step 4. With a rolling pin, roll the mixture out until it is about 1/2 thick. Use a pizza cutter to cut out small squares or purchase a little cookie cutter for cute shapes.

Step 5. Place the cut treats on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, bake in the over for 15-20 minutes.

Step 6. Allow the treats to cool completely before offering to your kitty, place treats in a clean mason jar or bowl and store in the fridge.

Enjoy!
